Making its nest as a small hollow on the ground on a bed of shells, seaweed and shingle, the oystercatcher relies on camouflage to protect the unattended (usually three) eggs. The eggs are large, varying from light mustard to olive brown, boldly blotched or streaked with black, purple and grey.
A truly beautiful example of natures wonder, this egg displays the full repertoire of blotches, scribbles and spots combined with subtle tones of creams and browns, cleverly distributed to mimic its coastline surroundings.
